Thematically, this volume reflects the stylistic shifts and evolving perceptions observed in Kiriti Sengupta’s most compelling poems over the years. Sengupta’s cosmopolitanism is symbolic—it reflects the modern issue of the “global village.” In this internet era of attention-grabbing stakes, shallow consumerism, immediate gratification, and fake entrepreneurship, Sengupta’s poetry shows a need for reflection. He isn’t afraid to critique the modern world. His aesthetic choices, though instinctive and involuntary, provide the fast-paced post-capitalist audience with a sense of nature’s rhythm: simplicity, beauty, harmony, and gratitude. I carefully selected poems not as a “best of” compilation but as one that reflects these qualities of Sengupta as a poet evolving with and within our times. In one critical essay, I suggested Sengupta is a democratic voice who embraces the right to challenge consensus. Over the nearly decade I have known Kiriti Sengupta as a poet, I have served as editor, critic, and sounding board for his poetry.
